The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the Loong Boat Festival, is one of China’s most cherished traditional holidays. With a history of more than 2,000 years, it is traditionally associated with the remembrance of Qu Yuan, an ancient Chinese poet known for his integrity and devotion.
Unlike the Western dragon, the Chinese Loong symbolizes wisdom, strength, prosperity, and good fortune. It is a cultural symbol deeply rooted in Chinese history and traditions.
During the festival, people enjoy exciting dragon boat races and share Zongzi — glutinous rice wrapped in fragrant bamboo or reed leaves. From sweet fillings like red dates and bean paste to savory flavors such as pork and salted egg yolk, Zongzi reflects the rich diversity of Chinese traditions.
More than a festival, it represents remembrance, teamwork, family reunion, and wishes for health and happiness.
